Time to Change Your Vehicle’s Cabin Air Filter

Before winter sets in is a good time to check your cabin air filter, after it’s been working hard all spring, summer and fall. Cabin air filters clean the incoming air and remove allergens, and should be replaced every 12,000 to 15,000 miles, or per the owner’s manual.

The cabin air filter helps trap pollen, bacteria, dust and exhaust gases that may find their way into a vehicle’s air conditioning and heating and ventilation systems. The filter also prevents leaves, bugs and other debris from entering the heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) system.

A dirty or clogged cabin air filter can cause musty odors in the vehicle and cause contaminants to become so concentrated in the cabin that passengers actually breathe in more fumes and particles when riding in the car compared to walking down the street. A restricted cabin air filter can also impair airflow in the HVAC system, possibly causing interior heating and cooling problems, important for staying comfortable this winter. Over time, the heater and air conditioner may also become damaged by corrosion.

Most filters are accessible through an access panel in the HVAC housing, which may be under the hood or in the interior of the car. An automotive service technician can help locate the cabin filter and replace it according to the vehicle’s owner manual. Some filters require basic hand tools to remove and install the replacement filter; others just require your hands. Filters should not be cleaned and reinstalled; instead, they should be replaced.

Nighttime Driving Worries

This year, Daylight Savings fell on November 6 – the day we all set our clocks back an hour, officially welcoming the season of shorter days. For many, shorter days result in an increase in nighttime driving.

Are you someone, or do you know someone who doesn’t enjoy driving once the sun has gone down? You’re not alone. A recent survey from SYLVANIA Automotive found that 62 percent of motorists avoid driving during evening hours. However, for many drivers avoidance is simply not realistic – you still need to get home from work, your children still need to get to and from after-school activities, and plans must go on. So, what to do? In order to increase visibility on the road and make you more comfortable when driving at night, it is essential that high-performance headlights are installed on your vehicle.

The same survey found that while 28 percent of drivers have difficulty seeing hazards and other drivers on the road at night, 34 percent of drivers have never changed out their headlights.

Clonmel driver finally makes switch to electric cars - at age 100

He learned to drive in a Ford Model T more than 80 years ago, and now he’s made the switch to an electric car at the age of 100. Clonmel man John Walsh must be one of the few drivers anywhere able to compare the two.

He started driving in the 1930s behind the wheel of his father’s Ford Model T and has just bought a Nissan Leaf. It’s the first brand new car he has ever bought - a spending decision partly influenced by the low interest rates he’s getting on his savings, but also reflecting concern for the environment.

Mr Walsh, who celebrates his 101st birthday on September 10th, was told by Nissan the zero emissions Leaf would have brought him fuel savings worth €120,000 if the car had existed for his whole motoring life.

“I would never have dreamt of buying a car at this stage”, he said. “My motivation was to do something to improve the environment and to conserve the supply of fossil fuels. The banks are paying no interest, so I decided to spend my money on an EV to do my own little bit to protect the environment.”

He intends to use the car for trips into town and to visit friends.

2017 Nissan Titan: An All-New Model To The Rescue

An apocalyptic orange sun, clouds of dark ash, and the heavy smell of smoke hover over Monterey, California. Completely erased are dreamy mental images of mesmerizing sunsets, stunning Big Sur landscapes, and the emerald greens of world-class Pebble Beach golf — massive out-of-control brush fires do that sort of thing.

While the tragedy of the fire was on everyone’s mind, the setting was more than appropriate for a Nissan truck drive that would include a unique off-road trail specifically crafted for the company’s new 2017 Titan Crew Cab V8. Driving over the mountain pass, I spotted no less than 50 fire trucks and emergency vehicles — I felt right at home among them in the new Titan.

After making its truck owners wait for more than a decade (the first-generation Titan was introduced in 2003), Nissan introduced the second-generation Titan at the New York International Auto Show earlier this year. The arrival is a big deal to the automaker because Titan sales have been stagnant, while the usual suspects (Ford’s F-Series, Chevrolet’s Silverado and the Ram) continue to dominate ― Nissan has to get back into the game.

According to Kelley Blue Book’s Truck Study, truck owners are loyal to their segment ― Chevrolet and Ford being most loyal to their brands at 42 and 40 percent respectfully. To break through, Nissan not only has to bring something spectacular to the table, but it has to change stubborn minds. With a new look, updated technology and updates to the entire Titan family (XD, Titan and new single cab) of trucks, there is no reason to believe Nissan can’t improve upon their sales.

2016 JUKE Safety: SAFETY SHIELD PHILOSOPHY

MONITOR

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

When it comes to tire pressure, TPMS takes away the guesswork. Using an icon on your dash, the system notifies you when tires aren't properly inflated.

Automatic On/Off Headlights
Available Automatic On/Off Headlights respond to light conditions outside, turning on or off when necessary, and leaving you to concentrate on the road ahead.

RearView Monitor
Engage Reverse, and the standard RearView Monitor is there to assist you. A camera on the rear of the vehicle helps show you what's directly behind you, on the dash-mounted screen in front of you. Because it’s nice to have a little back-up when you’re backing up.

JUKE® STINGER Edition By Color Studio

The contrasting unique style of the JUKE® Stinger Edition goes well with the unconventional individual. This limited edition comes two ways - in Solar Yellow with black accents or Super Black with yellow accents. Color accents include side mirrors, door handles, and rear spoiler. Both versions also come with yellow bumper accents and black 17" alloy wheels.

The fun continues in here with an exclusive customized interior that stands out all on its own. The motorcycle-inspired yellow console is the centerpiece, with more yellow accents on the black cloth seats, the shift knob, door panels and air vents, and sporty yellow stitching on the steering wheel.

Something Wicked This Way Comes

The JUKE is wickedly fun. The JUKE NISMO® is downright wicked. We’ve taken the turbocharged crossover that changed the game, and gave it even more game with an exclusive NISMO® aero package, NISMO® sport-tuned suspension, tighter handling, and stickier tires.

The all-new JUKE NISMO® RS – the ultimate performance crossover. More horsepower, sharper handling, better brakes, a performance transmission, and overall a lower, leaner, meaner attitude.

Genuine Recaro® Seats

These race-inspired seats bolster the torso, back, and thighs to help keep you firmly in place through even the most intense g-force-generating curves. The integrated headrest has belt pass-throughs that give it a sporty look, and are compatible with a 4-point harness system.

Brakes
We boosted both the performance and horsepower, so just to be fair, the brakes had to get the same treatment. Stopping has been enhanced with bigger rotors up front, and vented rotors all around help keep things cool. Even the calipers make a statement–they’ve been painted a deep NISMO® red.

Exhaust System
The NISMO® RS gets some added growl and performance from a specially designed exhaust system. Wider exhaust tubing and altered chamber increase exhaust flow to give it a subtly deeper, darker tone that hints at its racing inspired roots.

Interior
The exclusive NISMO® interior features bolstered performance seats, a black Alcantara® [*] leather-wrapped steering wheel with a red accent at 12 o’clock, a leather shift knob with contrasting stitching, and a vivid red tachometer.

Engine
The turbocharged 1.6-L engine has been tuned to hit its peak of 188 horsepower at 5,600 rpm. You’re going to feel the full NISMO® effect when you really need it—when you are passing 18-wheeler convoys on the highway.

Handling
It’s lower, leaner, and meaner. NISMO® engineers dropped the suspension, enhanced the aerodynamic profile, tweaked the rear spoiler, and gave it 18” aluminum-alloy wheels with low-profile performance tires.

2016 NISSAN JUKE®

Exterior Design
The JUKE isn’t just a crossover—it’s a sport cross Sport Cross. 370Z®-inspired combination lights and taillights, a fiercely sculpted hood, and those aggressive muscular lines, it’s anything but ordinary. With the look of a 2-door sports car and the function of a 4-door, JUKE is the best of both worlds.

Sport Bucket Seats
Throw yourself into a curve and see what JUKE can do. Sport bucket seats fit close to your body and help keep you well-positioned when making tight maneuvers.

Sport-Motorcycle Inspired Center Console
JUKE's design embodies pure adrenaline, taking a cue from the flowing, streamlined fuselage of sport-bikes to craft the unique appearance of the center console. Shout out your personality with performance red or a tough gunmetal finish.

Motorsport Inspired Gauges
JUKE's gauges are influenced by generations of motorsport styling. The speedometer and tachometer are designed for ease of understanding and infuse JUKE's dash with the spirit of speed.

Center Console
JUKE's slick center console takes styling cues from the radical lines of Italian sport bikes.

Cargo Space
Hidden space underneath the cargo floor holds your day-to-day essentials out of sight (front-wheel drive models only).

Vehicle-Speed-Sensitive Electric Power Steering

Every little bit helps. Using electric power steering instead of hydraulic power steering cuts down on the amount of power needed from the engine. And that means more miles out of every tank. Plus, it helps automatically adjust steering feel based on vehicle speed.

2016 Nissan Quest

THINK OF IT AS THE FAMILY LIMO

Inspired by super high-speed trains, Quest cuts a bold silhouette that stands out in a crowd. It features distinctive rear wraparound glass, and a dipping side character line that makes it look like it’s on the move, even when it’s parked. Flush-mounted headlights are complemented by fog lights for a dynamic look that perfectly accents Quest’s assertive grille.

LIKE HAVING YOUR VERY OWN DOORMAN

One-touch Power Sliding Doors
Quest's available one-touch power sliding doors make loading up easy, even with your hands full. Just tap the button on the handle, and the door unlocks and slides open without effort, and without skipping a beat.

ACCESS AT THE TOUCH OF A BUTTON

One-touch Power Liftgate
When your hands are full, Quest’s available one-touch power liftgate is your ally. With the tap of a finger, it opens wide for fumble-free access to the cargo area.

COMFORT THAT GOES THE DISTANCE

Whether you’re out running errands, or on a family road trip, enjoy it all in first-class accommodations. The spacious interior is complemented by stylish chrome accents, elegant wood-tone trim, and available leather-appointed seats—all bathed in natural light from the available dual opening glass moonroof.

Nissan Titan XD

Let me introduce you to the diesel-chugging, earth-moving, miniature American flag-waving exception: the new Nissan Titan XD.

The Titan, unlike its namesake, was not an imposing truck in appearance and looks smaller in the flesh than its 151-inch, crew cab wheelbase would suggest. Perhaps it was because of the almost-outlandish Forged Copper color (I called it Luxury Blurple) fitted to the press version I had, or perhaps it was the fact that the design lines were half as aggressive as your average inner city bus.

In any case, it’s bound to offend no one, and although that might be a detractor for the average Ferrari buyer that needs a steady flow of Instagram followers to feel whole, it’s right at home with a truck that’s designed to do nothing but work.

The cabin features the same sort of premium plastics seen in every new car made within the last five years: a mix of fingerprint-prone gloss black on plastic, painted silver plastic, and a dusting of leather on everything within skin’s reach.

The cooled and heated two-tone perforated leather seats were just on the right side of luxurious, with a nice attention to detail in the stitching and color selection, and were the perfect combination of supportive and cushy, especially on the 12 hour combined round trip to and from my trek upstate.
